Winner: Casey Daigle (1-1)
Loser: Kerry Wood (3-2)
Star of stars:
Daigle, a rookie, outpitched Kerry Wood for his first career victory. He retired his first 10 batters.
Cut to it: Steve Finley continued his torment of the Cubs, hitting his sixth homer in nine days against them, driving in a run and making a clutch defensive play to end a Chicago rally in the eighth inning.
Interesting: Wood made an impressive defensive play, making a behind-the-back grab on Danny Bautista’s comebacker.
RedEye review: The Cubs lineup must be a welcome sight to young Diamondbacks pitchers. Daigle entered the game with no wins in four career starts and an 8.55 ERA. Second-year man Brandon Webb four-hit the Cubs and struck out five for a win April 27.

Just saying: “I thought we got rid of Steve Finley in San Francisco, because he hit a lot of home runs [against us there]. I think maybe it’s me.”
