Finally, gas relief we can talk about in public.

A handful of Chicago-area gas stations will be selling E-85 fuel for 85 cents per gallon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, giving some lucky car owners a break on soaring fuel prices.

The promotion, sponsored in part by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, is meant to increase awareness about E-85 fuel, an environmentally friendly fuel blended from 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Only cars and trucks considered “flexible fuel vehicles” (FFV) can run on both E-85 or regular gasoline.

But don’t rule yourself out just yet–many owners drive a FFV car and don’t even know it, according to the Illinois EPA.

For a complete listing of cars that burn E-85, visit www.e85fuel.com and click on “flexible fuel vehicles.” Or pop open the fuel filler door and check the inside label.

These eight stations are in on the deal:

– Gas City, 4070 N. Clark St.

– Kean Oil, 2632 W. 111th St.

– Marathon, 815 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights

– Speedway, 885 E.Touhy Ave., Des Plaines
