A Chicago City Council committee approved an agreement Monday to display a World War II-era warplane at Midway Airport.

The Aviation Committee gave its backing to acquiring the SBD Dauntless aircraft on loan from the U.S. Navy. The full City Council could vote on the deal Wednesday.

The plane, which crashed into Lake Michigan during a training exercise during World War II, was recovered from the lake in 2001 and is being repaired at a museum in Florida.

Dauntless warplanes were involved in the Battle of Midway, the airport’s namesake.

The plane would be suspended from the ceiling of Midway’s Concourse A.
