Beijing sent one of the Buddha’s fingers to Hong Kong on Tuesday just in time for a celebration of his birthday, but critics belittled the move as a political gesture to soothe anger over China’s decision ruling out full democracy in Hong Kong. The relic, held in a bulletproof glass box, will be shown for 10 days in this largely Buddhist territory.
