School is out for summer, but children would find it hard to complain of nothing to do at Hinsdale Lake Terrace, a 582-unit apartment complex in unincorporated DuPage County.
The complex, which is near Burr Ridge but has a Willowbrook postal address, has a community center that offers a variety of mostly free programs for children, including a summer day camp, arts and crafts classes, holiday parties and recreational activities.
The center, which is in the complex’s clubhouse, also is furnished with Ping-Pong and foosball tables.
There are things to do outdoors as well. The complex has four tennis courts, a playground, basketball court, pool and a manmade lake stocked with fish.
The complex has 15 apartment buildings and 10 town home buildings on about 25 acres. There are 120 one-bedroom apartments. The model we visited is on the first floor of a two-story building whose exterior is gray siding and brown brick. There are 10 apartments available with this floor plan.
The model’s foyer, carpeted in beige, has a coat closet. Almost immediately to the left as you enter the apartment is a doorway to the 6-by-6 1/2-foot kitchen whose off-white linoleum floor has a pattern of taupe diamonds. The cabinets are wood in a medium shade and appliances are almond. There is neither a dishwasher or clothes washer and dryer. Each building has a common laundry room in its basement.
Another doorway leads from the kitchen into the 8-by-9-foot dining room with a hanging globe light.
Natural light pours through the sliding glass doorway of the 15-by-18-foot living room. It leads to a patio with room for a barbeque and lounge chair.
A short hallway off the living room leads to the 12-by-13-foot bedroom, which has a walk-in closet and a double window with a view south of the lawn and parking lot.
The bathroom, just outside the bedroom, has an off-white tile floor. The Euro-style vanity is also off white with wood trim and the sink is faux marble. The bathtub/shower is white. The room also has a linen closet.
Hinsdale Lake Terrace is just a few minutes’ drive from the Stevenson Expressway. It is served by a PACE bus that takes commuters to a Metra station about 15 minutes away in Hinsdale. A supermarket is a few minutes away.
The community’s one-bedrooms all rent for $699. Two-bedroom, one-bath units are $799 to $869 and three-bedroom, two-bath apartments are $1,099 a month. Three-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath townhouses rent for $1,299 to $1,349 a month.
