Regarding seat belts, letter writer Mary Richards asks (Voice of the people, July 27) if she was endangering anybody’s life except her own by not wearing hers.

The answer, loud and clear, is yes.

Any pilot can tell you what happens if he’s not buckled in when his plane gets bounced around by turbulence, enemy action or whatever. He can’t reach all of the controls, and he loses it.

If Richards gets bounced around on the expressway by another car–even a minor bump can do it–she’ll lose control, too, and her car will suddenly become two tons of unguided lethal weaponry.

She definitely is endangering the lives of those around her. Buckle up.
