The Jaycees pride themselves on developing leadership skills and giving back to the community. That made Oak Park a logical place for a new chapter of the non-profit organization, said adviser Alaina Segovia.
“It seems like everybody there is so proud to be in Oak Park,” Segovia said. “What better place to have a Jaycee chapter than in a village that’s proud of who they are?”
Segovia is a member of the Chicago Jaycees that helped to launch the new chapter. More than 20 people have signed up so far for the group, which met for the first time Thursday. It is among more than 3,000 chapters of the Jaycees throughout the U.S. Members are professionals ranging from 21 to 39 years old.
“The idea behind the Jaycees is to give young people the opportunity to really develop their leadership skills, help out the community and get to know other people while they’re doing it,” Segovia said. “It’s kind of an organization that hits all aspects of life.”
