A Zion man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday for the shooting a man to death three years ago.
Andrey Booker, 28, of the 2700 block of Gilead Avenue, who pleaded guilty in Lake County Circuit Court to first-degree murder before Associate Judge John Phillips, was charged in June 2001 in the slaying of Richard Zoephel, 34, of Zion, authorities said.
Just after he was shot, Zoephel drove away, but his car crashed and flipped on its roof in the 1200 block of 33rd Street in Zion, authorities said. He died of a gunshot wound in his chest, according to an autopsy. Police originally believed he had been killed in the accident.
Booker later confessed to police, authorities said. The gun that Booker used was found in a North Chicago dumpster.
