The City of Chicago has gone too far in its crackdown of city stickers. I was living in Chicago for less than two weeks when recently I received a ticket for not having a sticker on my car. Knowing that there is a 30-day period in which new residents have to purchase their stickers, I thought an officer had made a mistake. But when I contacted the clerk’s office, I was told that it doesn’t matter when you actually move to your new residence. They only care about the date your residential lease was signed, even if it was when you still lived in another city where you were bound to another lease.
According to the city, I must pay the $120 fine, and was also fined $40 when I purchased my sticker.
What a way to welcome me to my new home.
