I am continuously dismayed by those who do not wear seat belts. The idea that “I’m hurting no one but myself” is a specious argument. Do these people have no friends or loved ones? Have they never attended a funeral? You hurt a wide range of people when you exhibit and carry out suicidal behavior.
The other half of this tawdry coin is the expense that others must pay. We pay by higher insurance rates. We pay for hospital bills you cause. We pay for your rehab costs, if you live. We may be paying for a long time for your (choose any) quadriplegia, paraplegia, brain injury, time lost at work, disability pay outs, lawsuits and all the vast numbers of tests (MRIs, CAT scans) that you will need.
It has been proven that seat belts save lives. It’s the law too.
When are these ignorant people going to grow up and face the real consequences of their actions?
