I have been following the story of Barack Obama since hearing his speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Chicagoans and Illinois residents alike are in the presence of true greatness.

Obama is the real thing and, in an era when our country is sorely lacking for any honest leadership, his arrival is a breath of fresh air.

I live in Michigan now, so the immediate impact of Obama’s political career will not touch my daily life–at least not yet.

But I welcome the day when this young man has a chance to truly soar.

His focus, obvious intelligence and integrity speak volumes about the type of person he is and will be.

The Republican Party is desperate.

This man from Maryland is clueless about the lives of the people of Illinois and, from his speeches, really isn’t sure what he’s doing there either.

The Republican Party assumes that the voters of Illinois are ignorant and easily influenced and that by tossing in its black candidate, voters will become confused.

I have higher hopes for people from my home state.

I believe that the people of Illinois are smart enough to know the difference between true greatness and a corporate marionette and that Illinois voters will deliver to their state, to this country and to the world Barack Obama, a name history will recall with shining detail long, long after Americans strain to remember Alan who?
