The Friends of the Fox River say they’re not encouraging covert photographers to hunt for homeowners throwing lawn clippings in the river or boat owners discarding trash.
But one of the four categories in their Fox River photo contest might lend itself to that.
In addition to awarding ribbons to pictures of wildlife, landscapes and people experiencing nature along the nearly 100 miles of river from the Wisconsin border to Ottawa, Ill., the contest also includes a category for “river violations.”
The goal of the contest is “to show the beauty of the river,” said Jennifer Howard, spokeswoman for the advocacy group.
The contest deadline is Sept. 10. Winning photos also will be shown in a traveling exhibit that the group will display up and down the river.
As for any covert photography, Chuck Roberts, vice president of the group, said, “I’m not sure you’d have to work that hard at it. There’s more than enough evidence out there every day.”
