A federal judge Monday took away a Palos Hills man’s gold badge and identification cards as he awaits trial on a charge of impersonating an FBI agent.
Mark Rizzo, 51, was arrested last week at a Chicago conference on gangs where prosecutors say he posed as a former instructor at the FBI’s training academy. The crime carries a punishment of 3 years in prison.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Morton Denlow inspected a wallet belonging to Rizzo that bore a badge adorned with an eagle, closely resembling an FBI agent’s badge. Inside were two ID cards, one describing Rizzo as S.A.C., or special agent in charge, Assistant U.S. Atty. Diane MacArthur said.
Rizzo is free on a $4,500 personal recognizance bond.
