A proposed retail and residential development on the former Mt. Prospect Village Hall site is raising concerns with neighbors about parking.

Residents of a neighboring project by the developer told village trustees Tuesday they would be forced out of some of their parking spaces to make way for the new residents.

Chicago-based Norwood Builders, which has driven most of the new development in downtown Mt. Prospect, has proposed a five-story building with 14,000 square feet of retail space and 52 residential units, including five two-story duplexes.

The development is around the corner from Norwood’s new Shops and Lofts at Village Centre on Northwest Highway. The two projects would have adjacent underground parking.

Several residents of the Shops and Lofts said they use excess parking spots in the garage that would be designated for unit owners in the new project. Some said they were misled about the availability of parking in the village’s new parking garage and were discouraged from buying additional parking spaces when they bought their units.

Company spokeswoman Jennifer Tammen told trustees the company’s business practices were ethical and the company did not engage in misleading tactics. She said the company would be glad to meet with residents and trustees to resolve any outstanding issues before the next meeting.

An attorney for Norwood said all sales terms were spelled out in contracts that lawyers for the buyers had an opportunity to review before closing.

Trustees say they want more information about what was told to buyers and assurances the builder will provide adequate parking. A vote on a permit to allow the project is expected Sept. 7.
