A South Side man was fatally shot in an alley after leaving friends at a neighborhood bar early Sunday, police said.
Corey Terrell, of the 9300 block of South Elizabeth Avenue, who would have celebrated his 34th birthday next week, died in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach, authorities said. Police had found Terrell shot in an alley between the 9100 blocks of Ashland Avenue and Laflin Street about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, said police spokeswoman JoAnn Taylor.
A witness told police Terrell had left a friend at a neighborhood bar and barbecue restaurant in the 9100 block of Ashland Avenue a little before the shooting, saying he had to find a restroom, Taylor said. After hearing that someone had been shot, the friend went outside and saw Terrell in an ambulance.
Terrell had had no altercation with anyone in the bar before the shooting, a witness told police.
Police had no one in custody, Taylor said.
