I noticed in the Aug. 19 edition of RedEye that Oprah proclaimed: “I was, the whole time thinking, ‘I could have her on my show. I could have her on my show. I could have her on my show,’ ” while pointing to other jurors.

There was a man on trial for murder. There were jurors who said they did not get caught up in her celebrity status, but if she is offering to invite you to her show and she is thinking about who she can invite instead of the facts of the case, just how fair of a trial did he get? How focused was the jury on the facts and not Ms. Winfrey?

I don’t know the defendant nor do I know the victim, but someone did not get a focused jury.

It’s sad commentary when the person who has a television show wants to gain TV ratings to promote the show even more. I truly think that was a cruel thing to say when leaving the courthouse.
