Three model homes were damaged by a tornado in the city of McHenry, McHenry police reported, and three other tornadoes touched down briefly in Kane and DeKalb Counties Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

About 7:10 p.m., a tornado hit the western area of the city and damaged three unoccupied homes in the new Legend Lakes subdivision, said McHenry Deputy Police Chief Gary Wigman. The garage and window were blown out in one home, and all three suffered roof and siding damage, he said.

Three other tornadoes were seen, the first at 5:55 p.m. about 5 miles north of the city of DeKalb, said National Weather Service meteorologist Charley Mott. Another occurred at 6:13 p.m. 2 miles northwest of Burlington and another at 6:21 p.m. 9 miles east of Sycamore, both in Kane County, Mott said. Those touched down in open fields.

The tornadoes were caused when cool air at about 9,000-feet of elevation combined with warm, humid and moist air at ground level that made conditions unstable, said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Wilson.
