William Rood deserves a round of applause for coming forward with his highly credible account of the events regarding the swift boats of late 1968 and early 1969. The simple fact is that, with or without medals, John Kerry did serve in Vietnam, which is much more than can be said for his competitor. President Bush should, posthaste, request a retraction from the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” and he should do so publicly. Only that way can he take a small step toward establishing a posture of fairness with the American people.
