Since Mayor Daley is making such a fuss over Wrigley Field, here is a solution.
It was the mayor who went to the state legislators and got them to build his White Stockings a new park–which should be called Taxpayer Stadium–so I’m sure he would be most happy to do the same for the Cubs.
And since there are more Cubs fans in the state than Sox fans, it’s obvious that Cubs fans paid more of the bill on the Sox’s new park.
Here’s what to do: Remove the landmark status from Wrigley Field, demolish the park and build an exact replica of the old park, including ivy-covered walls and the same old scoreboard. An exact duplicate with the exception of bulking up the bleacher section for more seating.
If they have to cover the sidewalk outside Waveland and Sheffield avenues, Wrigleyville residents will just have to walk on the opposite side of the street.
While the new park is being built, the Cubs can play at U.S. Cellular Field, which their fans helped pay for.
