A Far South Side man who walked into a northbound lane of South Halsted Street died after he was hit by a car early Sunday, Chicago police said.
Police said Richard Byrd, 63, of the Beverly neighborhood walked into the street in the 10200 block of South Halsted Street as a car was passing. He was hit about 2 a.m. and pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn soon afterward, police said.
The driver, Richard Supran, 20, of the 10400 block of South Mansfield Avenue, Oak Lawn, was cited for failure to exercise due care and failure to produce a driver’s license.
Also Sunday, a woman was critically injured on Chicago’s Northwest Side when her car collided with another vehicle and swerved into a building at 3126 N. Milwaukee Ave., police said.
The 41-year-old woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center after the 4 a.m. crash, said police spokeswoman JoAnn Taylor. The other car left the scene, police said.
