Janet McCrea, nee Denomme, 62, beloved wife of Robert McCrea, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 of a head injury from an accidental fall. Janet was born in Detroit, MI and received a BA from the University of Detroit. She was a teacher of third and fourth grade school children in Detroit for many years and then spent several years teaching and working with abused and neglected children in Detroit’s inner city. In 1977 she moved to New York where she organized and ran a preschool for children in lower Manhattan. In 1982 she moved to Chicago, where she worked at the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School for gifted disturbed children for many years. Most recently she worked as a tour guide at the Robie House for the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation. Janet is survived by her husband Robert, who is a Professor in Neurobiology at the University of Chicago; her brother Tom Denomme; her sisters, Karen Mayo and Noreen Thomas; and ten nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held at the Chicago Theological Seminary at 5757 S. University Ave., Chicago, IL 60637 at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 18. Donations in her memory can be made to either the Foundation for Biomedical Research or to the Society for Neuroscience.
