I cannot disagree more strongly with the “Taking the war to the enemy” editorial. Stoking our fears–which are already real enough–into ignoring the long list of mistakes made by this administration is inexcusable to me.
Iraq was the wrong war and has been mismanaged at every point since Saddam Hussein was overthrown. Fewer people have health insurance. The budget surplus is long, long gone, and people like me (under 40) will be paying for it in our future.
The real choice for Americans to make is between a politically moderate challenger who has experience with government, politics and, yes, war–and a president who has already fought his pre-emptive war, one that is, by most calculations, a complete mistake, maybe even a disaster. Why, exactly, would we want to give him another chance at it?
Because we are too afraid to think clearly?
We’ll need another reason besides fear to vote for George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.
