Peter M. Howard, 62, a retired attorney for Mobil Oil Corporation, died of melanoma, September 5, 2004, at home in Delaplane, VA. Mr. Howard was born in Oak Park and raised in Wilmette, IL. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1965. He served in combat as an infantry officer in Vietnam and Korea. After two combat tours he served as a Ranger Instructor at Fort Benning, GA. Following military service, he recieved a law degree from Northwestern University in 1973. He began his law career at the Sante Fe Railroad in Chicago. He continued his career working for Mobil Oil Corporation as a corporate lawyer in New York, Denver and Washington D.C. Mr. Howard lived in the Middleburg, VA area since 1988 and was involved in various community activities including Civil War Heritage organizations. Survivors include his wife, Susan Howard; his parents Eleanor and Gordon Howard of Glenview, IL; three sisters, Meribeth Cooper of Marletta, GA, Martha Petrie of Eagle-Vail, CO and Miranda Haddock of Portage, MI and a brother, Paul Howard of Cheyenne, WY.
