Dale E. Anstaett, 76, longtime resident of Glenview, died Aug. 14 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights after a long illness. Mr. Anstaett was born Nov. 21, 1927 in Batavia, OH to Stanley and Gertrude Anstaett. He was raised in Batavia in a family of teachers, coaches and baseball players. He excelled in baseball and basketball where he was named all-county in high school and was captain of the team. He attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he was a member of Beta Theta Phi Fraternity and a drummer for the Campus Owls, a highly regarded big band which performed at major events throughout the Midwest. After graduating in 1948, he was a teacher and coach at Wayne Township High School in Ohio where he taught science and coached baseball, track and basketball for two years. He married Eleanor in 1950 in Evanston, IL. Mr. Anstaett’s lifelong business career was in the sale of educational textbooks and products. He was sales director of Silver Burdett Publishers in Ohio, New Jersey and Chicago. Later, he was sales manager for R. R. Donnelly & Sons in Chicago and then Western Publishing Company in Racine, WI. Mr. Anstaett had a longtime passion for baseball as a player and as a coach. He coached Glenview Little League as well as Glenview Pony and Colt Leagues. Mr. Anstaett was responsible for starting a Glenview junior high traveling basketball team in 1968. His interests also included tennis, badminton, bridge, cribbage, and politics in general. At one time he played bass in a local folk band. He also traveled abroad in retirement, and always enjoyed his lifelong passion as a fan for the Cincinnati Reds, and Miami University football. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Heuser Anstaett of Glenview; one son, Kurt (Robin) Anstaett of Winnetka; two daughters, Karen (Daryoosh) Tirandazi of Minneapolis and Dara (Rob) Chapman of Palatine; five grandchildren, Ross, Casey, Blair, Nadia and Corinne; one sister, Delores James of Tucson and a brother, Carroll Anstaett of Olean, NY. A private memorial service was held.
