The Orland Park Village Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a 66-acre mixed use development called Orland Crossing, but not before compromising with the both the project’s neighbors to the east and with its developers.
About 100 residents packed the Village Board room to express fears over increased traffic into their subdivision near the project at 143rd Street and La Grange Road. Proposed by the Davis Street Land Co. of Evanston, the first phase will consist of 102,000 square feet of retail and office and 82 town homes.
The board agreed to block off 142nd Street at 95th Avenue, leaving access to John Humphrey Drive for existing homeowners and the new town home owners.
An attorney for the developer said the first phase of Orland Crossing will generate only about a quarter of the traffic that would have come with the company’s original 481,000-square-foot development proposal.
“There will be no theater, no big-box stores and no large department stores,” David Sosin said.
The developer also agreed to knock 10 town homes off the project’s original 92-unit plan, even though company representative Bob Perlmutter said he was not sure if the project would work with 82 units.
