I was an excited Cubs fan last spring. After last year’s triumphs, I was certain they would win another division championship handily. But, as the season wears on, the Cubs struggle much more than I could have imagined.

I also had high hopes for John Kerry last spring. With the country embroiled in a horrible, unnecessary war and the loss of millions of jobs, how could Kerry not win? But he cannot seem to articulate the real issues and he is reluctant to point out President Bush’s ineptitude. I am fast losing heart that Kerry will win an election in which he should be a shoe-in.

It is tough to be a Democrat and a Cubs fan this year.
