Thanks for the excellent article on Nancy Faust in Tuesday’s paper. Nancy remains one of the highlights of visiting Sox Park.
Despite the recent (and substantial) physical improvements to U.S. Cellular Field, I find it increasingly painful to attend a game–particularly since the new marketing director was brought over from the Bulls. This man is a disaster. He has no understanding of the difference between basketball and baseball.
The noise in the lower deck has been cranked up so high that earplugs are required. Instead of letting Nancy’s knowledge, wit and verve carry the team and the fans through the spaces that are an essential part of baseball, every empty moment is filled with scoreboard action and overwhelming noise. The new marketing director–and apparently current ownership–has no trust in the merits of baseball itself to entertain their fans.
I remember the Bill Veeck days. I appreciate stunts and promotions. But if I wanted to watch endless videos at high volume, I could stay home and crank up the TV and stereo. When I want to enjoy a baseball game in the outdoors–even as a Sox fan–these days I have to go to Wrigley.
May Nancy remain and return to her former prominence. May the new marketing director be fired.
