What happens when a team appears to do everything right to prepare for a game or season and then misfires completely? Northwestern is about to find out. Saturday’s 30-21 loss to Arizona State left the Wildcats expecting practices to be a little more intense this week.
“We have quite a sour taste in our mouths,” receiver Mark Philmore said. “Whatever it takes to win. Losing–I hate it. I hate it. So whatever it takes to win, we’ll do.”
Said coach Randy Walker: “The hardest thing to do is to win a football game. Lifting weights isn’t nearly as hard; off-season conditioning isn’t as hard. Nothing you do to get ready to play football is remotely close to as hard as it is to win one football game.
“A lot of guys invested in getting ready for football, but as I told [them], everything you did is not an entitlement. It does not guarantee you anything. You have to go out and find a way to win.”
