The City Council approved plans Monday for a 10,880-square-foot, 24-hour CVS store with a drive-through pharmacy lane on the site of the former Jeep of DuPage dealership at the southeast corner of Roosevelt Road and Blanchard Street.

The former Jeep dealership has been closed since 2002 when the owners moved it less than a mile west to the larger, former Torco Chrysler dealership site at 800 E. Roosevelt Rd.

CVS will demolish the Jeep building and the Riggs Brothers Tops & Interior building at 1414 E. Roosevelt, which CVS also is buying, and will replace them with the pharmacy. In approving the plans by a 5-1 vote, council members were not swayed by nearby residents’ strenuous opposition to the all-night pharmacy and the additional noise and traffic that they had said that it would bring.

City and CVS officials will work with the Illinois Department of Transportation to add a northbound right-turn lane at the Blanchard approach to Roosevelt. Officials at Riggs Brothers have not yet decided where their business will relocate.
