I am writing in response to “Channeling Howard Dean” (Editorial, Sept. 23), in which you praise President Bush for being “steadfastly committed to defeating terrorists.” I can agree that Bush is steadfast in his beliefs; this quality, however, is not serving us well. He invaded a country that had no ties to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks (as proven by the bipartisan, independent commission); he had no plan for rebuilding the country once we had destroyed its infrastructure; and he continues to ignore the harsh reality that thousands of people (both Americans and Iraqis) have died and been wounded in this disaster. The insurgency is worsening. I support John Kerry who will build alliances and only use force when necessary.
