The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Northwestern University are among the American and French institutions receiving the first grants awarded by the new French-American Fund for Contemporary Music.

The CSO will receive $20,000 to support a series of concerts in March honoring composer and CSO principal guest conductor Pierre Boulez’s 80th birthday. Northwestern will receive $3,000 to support a festival of contemporary music from France.

Eleven American organizations and one French organization received grants ranging from $3,000 to $20,000. The fund, sponsored by both the public and private sectors, supports contemporary music projects that foster cultural exchange between France and the U.S.
