Recently I went pheasant hunting in Livingston County with some of my friends. There was Tom, Jake, Terry and me. Four friends and a dog out for a walk.
This was Tom’s first outing since he was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Two years ago, Tom was given less than a year to live. He recently got off chemo and got a clean bill of health.
When I asked Tom if he wanted to go hunting, he thought that he would only have enough energy for a short morning hunt.
The hunting trip was not a mission to blast pheasants out of the sky. It was enjoying life with friends. It was the enjoyment of watching a Brittany spaniel working though the grass looking for a pheasant.
Oh by the way, Tom walked our legs off and wanted to keep going when we called it quits at 4 in the afternoon.
We ended up with three roosters.
