Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. has signed a deal to air the men’s NCAA basketball tournament through 2007.
Sirius will broadcast every game of the tournament for the next three years, the network said Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Sirius and its competitor, XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc., recently started signing personalities and sports leagues in an effort to attract new subscribers. Last month, XM announced a $650 million, 11-year deal to air major league baseball games live.
Former Hoosier dies at 48
Mark Haymore, who played on Indiana’s unbeaten 1976 NCAA championship team before transferring to Massachusetts, has died. He was 48.
Haymore, who had a history of heart problems, was found dead in his Amherst, Mass., apartment on Sunday, police said. Haymore was part of a freshman class at Indiana that included Larry Bird. Bird left soon after enrolling. Haymore played on the team that beat Michigan 86-68 in the 1976 national championship game. A reserve, he scored two points and had a rebound in the title game.
He transferred to UMass where he played for two seasons.
