Residential growth in North Aurora should bring a welcome–albeit minuscule–surprise to residents: The village portion of their tax rate is going down.
Village Manager Sue McLaughlin said at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting that the owner of a $200,000 home should see his or her taxes go down about $9.
The tax rate is expected to drop 2 cents per $100 of assessed value, from 52 cents to 50 cents.
Three trustees also filed petitions Monday in hopes of becoming the next village president.
Because Mark Ruby has declined to seek a third term as village president, Dale Berman, who served as a trustee for eight years and village president from 1985 to 1989; John Hansen, a trustee for 17 non-consecutive years and Mark Guethle, chairman of the Kane County Democratic Organization, are stepping up to fill the job.
