Holly Covic did not study English in college–she attended the Moody Bible Institute for two years in Milwaukee. Yet she was a wordsmith, a lover of language, even correcting the grammar and spelling of colleagues with doctorates. Mrs. Covic, 65, died of bladder cancer Thursday, Jan. 27, in Weiss Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Covic, who lived in Wheaton, was born in Genoa City, Wis. For 26 years, she was a special education secretary for Elementary School District 148 in Dolton. She worked with psychologists on dissertations and writing projects. From her love of the written word came her desire to learn about different cultures. In 1960, she married Daniel Covic, a native of Croatia. She began learning the language and became fluent. She also learned to play the piano by ear. “As a person, she was extremely honest, extremely well-rounded, and above everything, always wanted to be a good wife and mother,” her husband said. Other survivors include two sons, Daniel Jr. and Peter; three granddaughters; a grandson; four sisters, Bethyl Ann Triplett, Ariel Schmidt, Faye Hovland and Della Allen; and two brothers, Louis Button and Carlyle Button. Services have been held.
