Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. paid Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton to wear his hair in the style of the tread pattern of the company’s Assurance TripleTred car tires
Hamilton wore the hairstyle two days ago when the Pistons beat the New York Knicks 91-61 in Detroit. The 26-year-old guard plans to keep it for about a week, a Goodyear spokesman said.
Josh Nochimson, Hamilton’s business manager, wouldn’t say how much Hamilton was paid, but Hamilton got free tires and hopes the publicity stunt leads to an endorsement deal.
Hamilton even displayed the hairstyle to U.S. President Bush, who hosted the Pistons at the White House in honor of their championship.
Hamilton is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 20.3 points a game to go along with 4.2 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
