Shirley Potesak, 82, of Crestwood, IL, died on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Palos Community Hospital, Palos Heights, IL. Cremation rites were accorded. A Memorial Service will be held Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Greenwood United Methodist Church, 11000 S. St. Louis, Chicago, the Rev. Carl Hood will officiate. A private family inurnment will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, Memorial and Tribute Program, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674. She was born on Feb. 6, 1922 in Chicago to Esther, nee Young, and Frank Vlk. She married Lawrence Potesak on Oct. 29, 1941 in Chicago. He died on July 27, 1986. Her sister, Lois, also preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Wayne Potesak of Crestwood; one daughter, Sandra (David) Moon of Sheffield, IL; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. For many years she lived on S. Drake Ave. in Chicago before moving to Florida, where she lived for two years. She lived in Crestwood since 1997. Mrs. Potesak worked as a bookkeeper for the Greyhound Central Revenue Bureau and Liquid Carbonic Co. She also was a clerk at Stewart’s Variety Store and her brother-in-law’s dry cleaning stores. She was a member of the Mt. Greenwood Methodist Church for over 40 years and was the secretary of the Sunday School for 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting and bowled for many years.
