“Jesus Walks” has become an anthem for Kanye West, who rode its success all the way to Grammy gold. But sharing that honor is co-writer Rhymefest.
In a mixtape that just hit the streets, the Chicagoan shows off his own lyrical skills. Included on the mixtape, called “A Star is Born,” is the original version of “Jesus Walks,” as well as two “Battle Royale” tracks which set up battles between 50 Cent and Ghostface as well as Nelly and KRS-One, mtv.com reports. The twist is that it’s actually Rhymefest imitating the combatants’ voices and flow.
Look for Rhymefest’s solo debut sometime later this year. Kanye and fellow Chicagoan Common are among the expected collaborators. Sounds like a star-studded effort.
