A Hometown woman drove her gray Ford Taurus through the front of a local coin laundry Thursday, injuring herself and two patrons, police said.

The first police officer to arrive on the scene was overcome by carbon monoxide fumes and taken to a hospital.

Hometown Police Chief Charles Forsyth said Juanita Saran, 83, hit the accelerator instead of the brakes as she pulled into a parking spot in front of the Hometown Laundromat, 4104 Southwest Highway.

Forsyth said Saran was trapped in her car, which was wedged between washing machines. Patrol Officer Frank Hickey was overwhelmed by fumes and treated at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. Saran and two Chicago women were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
