Des Plaines City Council members approved a proposal Monday to convert a historic building into a drive-through bank.

The City Council will allow Des Plaines National Bank to rehabilitate the two-story building at 1545 Ellinwood St., which was constructed in 1881 and is the former site of the Kinder Hardware store.

Bank officials plan to maintain part of the facade.
