The April 5 editorial “Amateurs on the border” seems to have missed the point about the Minuteman Project volunteers.
The volunteers are sick and tired of the invasion from Mexico, and the threat of terrorists using Mexico’s northern border to cross illegally into the United States to commit another Sept. 11, 2001, kind of mass killing of American citizens.
(Poll after poll says many Americans feel the same way.)
The volunteers in this program are there just to observe and to report illegal border crossings to the Border Patrol when spotted, and to give food and water if needed. They cannot by law stop these people. All this has turned into is the biggest neighborhood watch program in the country.
