So now we’re going to have to show our passports when we return from Canada or Mexico, even if we just popped over the border for a few hours (“Crossing the border about to get tougher; Americans will need passports to return from Canada, Mexico,” Page 1, April 6).
Are the brain-boys in the Department of Homeland Security really so naive as to think that this will deter dedicated terrorists, with their financial resources, cunning and determination, from getting into the country? All that is going to be accomplished is to inconvenience millions of people and drive down the economies of towns on both sides of our Canadian and Mexican borders.
What we need is really strong border controls around Washington–not to thwart terrorists but to keep the bureaucrats and politicians out of our hair.
