Why are the media so adamant about criticizing Pope Benedict XVI?

Is it because they just need a story to fill their morning and evening news programs?

The day the pope was elected, they reported praise from around the world about the new leader of the Catholic Church.

The next day all I heard was criticism.

Electing a new pope is not a public election, so the media have no say about the decision.

Wouldn’t it be much easier to unite behind the new religious leader and support him in his new role?

We should stand behind and trust the cardinals’ judgment.

What good does criticism do? It’s much easier to support than criticize.
