Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Tribune staff reporter Maureen Ryan’s inventory of “6 ways TV is changing your life” (Arts & Entertainment, May 1) contains some omissions. Here are six more ways TV is changing our lives:

– Accelerating the obesity epidemic.

– Contributing to attention deficit disorder.

– Normalizing gratuitous sex and violence.

– Creating endless desires and poor self-esteem.

– Taking up time once spent socializing with others or being creative.

– Deterring us from actively living our own lives as we passively watch strangers live theirs.

Television will effect a truly fulfilling, positive change in our lives only when we decide that it is time to turn it off for good.
