Before the Paul Taylor Dance Company can kick up its collective heels at a gala performance presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art on June 2, someone needs to hold a kick-off cocktail party somewhere to let everyone know the master is back, albeit briefly, after more than a decade. So Christie Hefner did. “There are long roots between my family and MCA,” said Hefner, one of the gala’s honorary chairs. “The old museum [on Ontario Street] was the old Playboy headquarters.” Toot the roots if you like, but when you are trying to sell tickets to a benefit, it doesn’t hurt to party in a penthouse with a panoramic view of the city. “We’re more than half sold,” co-chair Lori Crosley reported to the 50 guests sampling treats from Wolfgang Puck that included goodie bags filled with cookies and chocolates. “But we still want to lasso more people for the committee,” added fellow co-chair Robert Kohl. “Lock the door!” Hefner yelled. Paul Taylor will debut “Klezmerbluegrass,” commissioned in part by the MCA and the National Foundation of Jewish Culture. Sounds like there will be toe tapping on and off stage.
