Former pitcher Vida Blue recently completed 28 days at an alcohol rehabilitation center, part of a May 16 agreement for violating probation from a 2004 DUI conviction. He’s now in a San Francisco halfway house awaiting another case in Arizona from an arrest during spring training on suspicion of DUI–his third incident in six years. Blue, 55, is on unpaid administrative leave with the Giants, where he has been a community representative for 14 years. Informed that friends are rooting for him, Blue–who told the San Francisco Chronicle he didn’t want to be interviewed because of legal reasons–seemed appreciative but said, “It’s not like I’m dying.” Those close to him say he must drastically change his lifestyle.
