Join us as we go on a six-week summer treasure hunt, uncovering a half-dozen city and suburban destinations that will entertain, enlighten and amuse.
Each week, we’ll tease you with a photo and a clue to the latest destination. It’s your job to . . . Find It!
This week, your first clue. Hint: All of the destinations are landmarks around the Chicago area.

CLUE #1
Where is it?
Near the intersection of two presidents sits this longtime Chicagoland institution, a favorite of early-morning commuters and lunch-goers alike since the nation was last at war in Europe. The sacred and profane sit elbow-to-elbow in the spartan-but-clean eating area; you’ll spot politicians and journalists, cops and defendants. It’s a must-stop for vote-seeking politicians.
The restaurant’s name-sake passed away long ago, but family members keep the tradition alive and the hot food coming, whether it’s a fluffy stuffed omelet, a two-handed corned-beef sandwich or a steaming bowl of Jewish penicillin. People order quickly, lest they be mocked for their indecision. Grab a table, eat fast and pay on your way out–and maybe grab a piece of candy for dessert.
People may disagree whether this place is better for breakfast or lunch–but there’s no debate about dinner, because there isn’t any.
This place has an airport location, but we’re talking only about the main establishment, in the photo at left.
