– The quest to become the next “American Idol” is about to start. Auditions for the fifth edition of the popular show begin in San Francisco on Aug. 18. On Sept. 16, tryouts will be held in Chicago at Soldier Field.
– On the eve of the British premiere of “Herbie: Fully Loaded,” Lindsay Lohan left London on Wednesday night and flew to New York to be on hand for the beginning of her parents’ divorce proceedings. “Lindsay decided to come home to support her mother and her siblings during this divorce trial,” a rep for the star told people.com.

-Punk acts young, old and reunited have pledged their support for embattled New York club CBGB, which is fighting to renew a soon-to-expire lease and may be forced to close. Artists including the Misfits, Thursday, Against Me, Liars, Dead Boys, Gorilla Biscuits and the Vandals will perform at a series of benefit concerts at the club.
