Nikola Krcmarevic didn’t miss one session of the Downers Grove South preseason weight work. Now the first-year starter isn’t missing scoring opportunities.

The senior forward tallied twice in the seventh-ranked Mustangs’ 3-0 home victory Tuesday over third-ranked Morton.

Krcmarevic gave South the lead from 6 yards out in the 48th minute after a pass from Alex Jones. He added an insurance goal with 9:01 left.

South (4-1-1, 1-0 West Suburban Gold) got a wake-up call when Morton’s Ismael Ceja bounced a shot off the crossbar from 30 yards out in the 44th minute.

“At halftime coach [Jon Stapleton] told us, `We will not lose on our field,'” Krcmarevic said. “After that shot, we just tried to push harder.”

Morton (3-1-1, 0-1) goalkeeper Victor Naranjo kept his team in the game while under pressure.
