Brent William Thomas, 23, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Crystal Lake, IL, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005. Born Sept. 9, 1982, he was the beloved son of Beverly and Larry; and the loving brother of Brandon (Cheryl Hauser) Thomas. A 2001 graduate of Crystal Lake Central, Brent attended Indiana University until 2004. He was currently a veterinarian assistant in Fort Lauderdale. Brent had many interests, including a love of animals, football, cartooning, writing, magic, the Chicago Cubs and superheroes. Known for his creativity, his sense of humor, and enthusiasm for sports, Brent had a big heart and great compassion for anyone and anything that needed help. Brent is survived by his parents and his brother; his cherished Aunt Lola and Uncle Steve; his paternal grandparents; aunts; uncles; cousins and many wonderful friends, both near and far. He was preceded in death by his loving maternal grandmother, Katherine “Mimi” Nyman and his Brittany Spaniel, Chloe. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 West Terra Cotta, Crystal Lake. A Memorial Service will be held immediately following the visitation. Memorials may be made to the Brent William Thomas Scholarship Trust to provide an annual scholarship to a Crystal Lake Central High School senior who will be attending college to study the visual arts c/o Home State Bank, 40 Grant Street, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
